Throughout the year, the pack stays active with a full calendar of engaging outdoor adventures, traditional Cub Scout events, and community-focused activities.
The scouting year kicks off in the autumn with the Fall Campout, where families gather for a weekend of camping, trail hikes, and evening campfire stories. As the holiday season approaches, scouts pivot to giving back during the annual Holiday Service Project, working together to support local community needs and practice the core scout value of helpfulness.
Winter and early spring bring some of the most anticipated traditions on the scouting calendar. Scouts put their woodworking skills to the test in the famous Pinewood Derby, racing custom-built wooden cars down a fast track. Shortly after, the pack gathers for the Blue & Gold Banquet, a festive dinner that celebrates the birthday of Cub Scouting and recognizes individual scout achievements. This event often takes place around the same time as the poignant Arrow of Light Ceremony, a milestone honor that marks the highest achievement in Cub Scouting as senior Cub Scouts bridge over into a Scouts BSA troop.
As the weather warms up, the pack transitions back outdoors for action-packed spring and summer traditions. Families look forward to the Cub Carnival, filled with games and challenges, followed by the Spring Campout for another weekend under the stars. Scouts then head to the water for the relaxed Fishing and Picnic day, as well as the high-energy Raingutter Regatta, where scouts race miniature trimaran boats down water-filled gutters using wind power.
The scouting year culminates in a robust Summer Camp program tailored to different age levels and readiness:
Day Camp at Gunston Hall: Perfect for younger scouts, offering daytime outdoor skills, crafts, and nature exploration without overnight stays.
Resident Camp at Camp Snyder: A multi-day overnight adventure giving scouts a taste of traditional camp life with swimming, archery, and scoutcraft.
Week-Long AOL/Webelos Camp at Camp Ross: An immersive summer experience designed specifically for older Webelos and Arrow of Light scouts to build leadership skills and prepare for Scouts BSA.
